Who became the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969?
Answer
Neil Armstrong
Answer
Neil Armstrong
Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969.
Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface on 21 July 1969 Coordinated Universal Time, during NASA’s Apollo 11 mission. He and Buzz Aldrin descended in the lunar module Eagle, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module Columbia.
Armstrong’s first step followed the landing on 20 July in the United States time zone, which is why accounts sometimes give different calendar dates. Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center on 16 July 1969 and returned to Earth on 24 July. Aldrin became the second person to walk on the Moon, while Collins was the mission’s command-module pilot and did not land.
