Who became the first person to spend more than a day in space during Vostok 2?
Answer
Gherman Titov
Answer
Gherman Titov
Gherman Titov became the first person to spend more than a day in space during the Vostok 2 mission.
Titov launched on 6 August 1961 and completed 17 orbits of Earth during a flight lasting about 25 hours and 18 minutes. His mission followed Yuri Gagarin’s pioneering single-orbit flight and demonstrated that a human could remain in space for a much longer period.
Vostok 2 also included an early attempt to study how a person could work, eat, sleep, and exercise in orbit. Titov experienced space sickness, an issue that became an important subject for later crewed missions.
Titov was only 25 at launch and remains one of the youngest people ever to travel into space. He is sometimes confused with Gagarin because both flew Vostok spacecraft, but Gagarin flew first and Titov flew the longer mission.
