Who became the first person to complete a solo nonstop flight around the world?

The story behind the answer

Steve Fossett became the first person to complete a solo nonstop flight around the world.

Fossett achieved the feat in the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer in February 2005. He departed from Salina, Kansas, on 1 February and returned on 3 February, completing the journey in about 67 hours. The aircraft was a highly efficient, single-seat jet designed to carry enough fuel for the exceptionally long flight.

The flight was also the first solo nonstop circumnavigation without refuelling. Fossett’s route crossed the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans and required careful management of fuel, weather, and navigation. He set several aviation records during the mission.

This achievement is distinct from the first solo flight around the world, completed by Wiley Post in 1933, which involved stops and refuelling. It is also different from the first nonstop circumnavigation by an aircraft, completed by a U.S. Air Force crew in 1949.
