Who became Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus became Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth.

Epimetheus is a Titan whose name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with his brother Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. Hesiod’s story says Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept a gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus took Pandora into his household.

Pandora then opened the container entrusted to her, releasing the troubles kept inside. The story’s marriage is therefore important because it places Pandora in the human world through Epimetheus’s decision.

The myth is sometimes retold as if Prometheus were Pandora’s companion, because Prometheus is the better-known Titan. That is a mix-up: Prometheus is her husband’s brother, while Epimetheus is the figure who receives Pandora and marries her.
