Who became Amazon's CEO after Jeff Bezos in July 2021?
Answer
Andy Jassy
Answer
Andy Jassy
Andy Jassy became Amazon’s CEO after Jeff Bezos in July 2021.
Jassy officially took over as chief executive on July 5, 2021, while Bezos moved into the role of executive chair. The date was symbolically notable because July 5 was also the anniversary of Amazon’s 1994 incorporation. Bezos had led Amazon as CEO for nearly three decades, guiding its transformation from an online bookseller into a vast retail, logistics, cloud-computing and media company.
Before becoming CEO, Jassy was best known for building and leading Amazon Web Services. He joined Amazon in 1997 and helped develop AWS from its launch into one of the company’s most important businesses. He served as AWS chief executive from 2016 until the leadership transition in 2021.
The change did not mean Bezos left Amazon entirely: as executive chair, he remained involved at board level. A common mix-up is choosing Jeff Wilke, Werner Vogels or Brian Olsavsky, all prominent Amazon executives, but none succeeded Bezos as CEO.
