Dan Evans beat Karen Khachanov in the US Open’s record 5-hour-35-minute match in 2024.
Evans won the first-round contest 6–7, 7–6, 7–6, 4–6, 6–4 on August 27, 2024. Every set lasted more than an hour, and the match included three consecutive tiebreaks before Khachanov took the fourth set and threatened to pull away in the decider.
The British player then produced a remarkable comeback. Khachanov led 4–0 in the fifth set and held several chances to move further ahead, but Evans won the next six games to complete the longest match in US Open history. The record is generally compared with matches played since the tournament introduced tiebreaks in 1970.
The previous US Open record was 5 hours 26 minutes, set by Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang in their 1992 semifinal. A common mix-up is to name Khachanov, the higher-ranked seed, as the winner; Evans was the player who survived the marathon.
