Who authored the 'Berenstain Bears' series?

Stan and Jan Berenstain authored the “Berenstain Bears” series. The husband-and-wife team created the stories and illustrations, beginning with The Big Honey Hunt in 1962.

Stanley Berenstain and Janice Grant met at Philadelphia’s art school in 1941 and married in 1946. Before becoming famous for children’s books, they worked together as cartoonists and illustrators for magazines. Their sons, Leo and Mike, later joined the family business.

Dr. Seuss is a common mix-up because Theodor Geisel was an editor at Random House and helped encourage the bear concept. He also edited some early books and helped establish the “Berenstain Bears” name, but he did not author the series. Mike Berenstain continued producing new books after his parents’ deaths.
