Star Wars: The Old Republic was released in 2011. BioWare announced the MMORPG in 2008 and launched it for Windows in North America and parts of Europe on December 20, 2011.
The game is set roughly 300 years after Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and follows a renewed conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Players can choose from Republic or Sith-aligned classes, each with its own story campaign and dialogue choices.
A common mix-up comes from regional launch dates. Australia and New Zealand received the game on March 1, 2012, which explains why some references mention 2012. Pre-order customers also received early access beginning December 13, 2011, but the public launch year remains 2011.
The Old Republic was notable for its unusually large amount of recorded dialogue. In 2012, it was recognized by Guinness World Records for having more than 200,000 lines of voiced dialogue.
