Which Will Forte SNL character was adapted into a 2010 feature film?
Answer
MacGruber
Answer
MacGruber
MacGruber was the Will Forte SNL character adapted into a 2010 feature film. The character parodied MacGyver-style action heroes, but unlike the resourceful original, MacGruber routinely made reckless decisions and assembled absurd solutions while surrounded by imminent danger.
The first MacGruber sketch aired in January 2007. Forte played the title character, with Kristen Wiig often appearing as Vicki St. Elmo, his collaborator and romantic partner. The sketches typically ended with MacGruber failing spectacularly, usually because of his ego, poor planning, or an ill-timed personal confession.
The film, directed by Jorma Taccone and written by Forte, Taccone, and John Solomon, expanded the premise into a feature-length action comedy. It was released in the United States on May 21, 2010, and starred Forte alongside Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, and Powers Boothe. Although it performed poorly at the box office, it later developed a strong cult following.
MacGruber also returned as a television series on Peacock in 2021. The other options were SNL characters or recurring figures, but none was adapted into this 2010 film.
