Fulvia was the wife of Mark Antony who died in 40 BC, after Antony had met Cleopatra. She was an influential Roman aristocrat and Antony’s third wife.
Fulvia had previously been married to Publius Clodius Pulcher and Gaius Scribonius Curio, both prominent politicians. Her marriage to Antony connected her to the power struggles that followed Julius Caesar’s assassination. While Antony was in the East, she became deeply involved in Roman politics and helped oppose Octavian.
In 41 BC, Fulvia and Antony’s brother Lucius Antonius challenged Octavian in the Perusine War. Octavian besieged Perusia and forced its surrender in 40 BC. Fulvia fled to Greece with her children, where she later died of an illness at Sicyon near Corinth.
A common mix-up is Octavia Minor, Octavian’s sister, whom Antony married after Fulvia’s death. Antony later left Octavia and formed his famous political and romantic alliance with Cleopatra VII.
