Which whale is famous for using bubble nets to concentrate prey?

The story behind the answer

The humpback whale is famous for using bubble nets to concentrate prey.

During bubble-net feeding, one or more humpback whales release bubbles beneath or around a school of fish. The rising bubbles form a narrowing curtain that helps keep prey grouped together. The whales then swim upward through the concentrated school with their mouths open, capturing fish and seawater before filtering the water through their baleen plates.

This behavior is especially associated with populations in the North Pacific, North Atlantic and parts of the Southern Hemisphere. Groups may coordinate their movements and calls, although the exact roles of individual whales can vary. Humpback whales also use bubble clouds in other feeding tactics, so not every bubble trail is a complete bubble net.

Humpbacks are baleen whales, not toothed whales. They strain food rather than seizing it with teeth, and their diet commonly includes small schooling fish and krill. Their long pectoral flippers, knobbly head and complex songs help distinguish them from other large baleen whales.
