Which waterfall is the world's widest curtain of falling water, spanning the Zambezi River?

The story behind the answer

Victoria Falls is the world's widest curtain of falling water, spanning the Zambezi River.

Victoria Falls lies on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the Zambezi plunges into a series of narrow gorges. The waterfall is about 1,708 metres wide and reaches a maximum height of about 108 metres. Its local name, Mosi-oa-Tunya, means “The Smoke That Thunders.”

Scottish explorer David Livingstone saw the falls in 1855 and named them Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria. The site is protected by national parks in both countries and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage property.

Iguazu Falls is generally wider as a system of many cascades, while Angel Falls is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall. Victoria Falls is especially famous for its broad sheet-like appearance during the Zambezi's high-water season.
