Which waterfall in Venezuela is the world's tallest uninterrupted waterfall?
Answer
Angel Falls
Answer
Angel Falls
Angel Falls in Venezuela is the world’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall, dropping 979 metres from Auyán-tepui.
The falls are in Canaima National Park in Bolívar State, within Venezuela’s Gran Sabana region. Their longest uninterrupted plunge is about 807 metres; the total height also includes sloping cascades and rapids below the main drop. Water from the falls ultimately joins the Orinoco River system.
Angel Falls is remote, surrounded by rainforest and accessible mainly through Canaima, followed by a river journey during the wetter part of the year. The waterfall’s Indigenous Pemon name is Kerepakupai Merú, commonly rendered in English as Kerepakupai Vená. The English name honours American aviator Jimmie Angel, whose 1937 landing on Auyán-tepui helped bring international attention to the falls.
“Tallest waterfall” can be confusing because rankings use different measurements. South Africa’s Tugela Falls is sometimes argued to be taller overall, but Angel Falls remains the standard answer for the tallest uninterrupted or single-drop waterfall.
