Which waterfall has the greatest uninterrupted vertical drop?

The story behind the answer

Angel Falls has the greatest uninterrupted vertical drop of any waterfall, at 807 metres.

Angel Falls is in Venezuela’s Canaima National Park, where water plunges from the summit plateau of Auyán-tepui, a distinctive table-top mountain. The full waterfall is commonly measured at 979 metres, including smaller cascades below the main free fall.

The falls are named after Jimmie Angel, a United States aviator who landed his aircraft on Auyán-tepui in 1937. The waterfall’s Indigenous Pemon name is Kerepakupai Merú, often translated as “waterfall of the deepest place.”

Victoria Falls is wider and Iguazu Falls has a greater overall system of cascades, but neither has Angel Falls’ uninterrupted vertical drop. Measurements can vary when sources distinguish the main plunge from the complete waterfall system.
