Which waterfall has the greatest uninterrupted single drop in the world?

The story behind the answer

Angel Falls has the greatest uninterrupted single drop of any waterfall in the world, measuring 807 metres.

The waterfall descends from Auyán-tepui, a flat-topped mountain in Venezuela's Canaima National Park. Water first falls freely for 807 metres before reaching a series of smaller cascades, giving the waterfall a total height of 979 metres. The surrounding tepui landscape is part of the Guiana Shield, one of Earth's oldest geological formations.

The waterfall is named after American aviator Jimmie Angel, who flew over it in 1933. Local Pemón people call it Kerepakupai Merú, a name often translated as “waterfall of the deepest place.”

Tugela Falls in South Africa is frequently discussed as a rival because measurements and definitions vary, but Angel Falls is the standard record-holder for the highest uninterrupted drop. Victoria Falls is wider and exceptionally impressive, but it is not the highest single-drop waterfall.
