Which Washington landmark was used as the exterior location for the Great Northern Hotel in Twin Peaks?

The story behind the answer

Salish Lodge was used as the exterior location for the Great Northern Hotel in Twin Peaks.

Salish Lodge stands beside Snoqualmie Falls in Snoqualmie, Washington. In the series, its exterior represents the Great Northern, the hotel owned by Benjamin Horne and later associated with Dale Cooper’s stay in the town. The building’s prominent position above the falls helped give the fictional hotel its isolated, dramatic appearance.

The location was originally known as the Salish Lodge and has remained a real hospitality property rather than a fictional Twin Peaks building. Other nearby Washington locations were also used in filming, including Snoqualmie Falls, the town of North Bend, and the historic roadside diner later associated with the Double R Diner.

A common mix-up is to answer Snoqualmie Falls. The falls are the nearby landmark visible in the show, but the building used for the Great Northern exterior is Salish Lodge.
