Answer
Mount Damavand
Answer
Mount Damavand
Mount Damavand is the highest peak in Iran, reaching approximately 5,610 metres.
Damavand is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Alborz mountain range, south of the Caspian Sea. It is also the highest volcano in Asia, a distinction separate from being the continent’s highest mountain overall.
The mountain is deeply important in Persian culture and literature. It appears in the national epic Shahnameh and is associated with the legendary hero Fereydun and the imprisoned tyrant Zahhak. Its isolated snow-covered cone has therefore become both a geographic landmark and a national symbol.
Damavand is sometimes described as extinct, but geological evidence indicates that it is potentially active. Fumaroles, hot springs, and sulfur deposits occur around the mountain, although its most recent known eruptions happened thousands of years ago.
