Which video game system originally played Pokémon Red and Green?
Answer
Game Boy
Answer
Game Boy
Pokémon Red and Green originally played on Nintendo’s Game Boy.
The original Game Boy was a monochrome handheld system released by Nintendo in 1989. Pokémon used the console’s portability and link-cable connection to make collecting and exchanging creatures central parts of the experience.
Players could connect two Game Boy systems with a Game Link Cable to trade Pokémon or battle. This feature helped solve a major design problem: no single game version contained every species. Trading between Red and Green, or later Red and Blue, was necessary to complete the original Pokédex.
The games are often associated with the Game Boy Color because Pokémon Yellow used color features and later releases supported that hardware. However, Red and Green were designed for the original Game Boy. Their success also extended the commercial life of the handheld, which was already several years old when the games appeared.
