The opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics was held at San Siro in Milan.
San Siro is the familiar name of the stadium officially known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The landmark football ground, home to Inter Milan and AC Milan, hosted the February 6, 2026 ceremony for the Milano Cortina Games.
The venue choice reflected the Games' unusual geography. Competitions were spread across Milan and mountain locations in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Val di Fiemme, Anterselva and Livigno, but the opening celebration began in Italy's largest metropolitan centre. San Siro therefore served as the principal ceremonial meeting point before athletes travelled to their competition clusters.
The Verona Arena was associated with the closing ceremony, not the opening ceremony. Stadio Olimpico and Allianz Stadium are also major Italian sports venues, but neither was the 2026 Winter Olympic opening venue.
