Which U.S. stock exchange became the symbolic center of the 1929 Wall Street Crash?

The story behind the answer

The New York Stock Exchange became the symbolic center of the 1929 Wall Street Crash.

The exchange, located on Wall Street in New York City, experienced enormous selling pressure in October 1929. Black Thursday came on October 24, followed by Black Monday on October 28 and Black Tuesday on October 29.

The crash followed years of rapid share-price growth, widespread speculation, and purchases made with borrowed money. A market decline forced many investors to sell, while falling prices damaged banks, companies, and household finances.

The crash did not by itself cause the entire Great Depression, which involved deeper banking, monetary, and economic problems. However, it became the defining financial symbol of the downturn and helped undermine public confidence in the American economy.
