The National Museum of Mexican Art is located in Illinois.
The museum is in Chicago’s Harrison Park in the Pilsen neighborhood and presents Mexican art and culture through exhibitions, educational programs, and collections. Its subject matter includes traditions that are important to Mexican and Mexican American communities, including family celebrations.
The institution was founded in 1982 by Carlos Tortolero and opened to the public in 1987. It was originally known as the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum before adopting its current name in 2006.
A quinceañera is not limited to Mexico, and the museum is not a quinceañera-specific institution. Its relevance is broader: it documents Mexican cultural life, while individual families adapt quinceañera practices in different ways across Mexico, the United States, and other countries.
