The National Museum of Mexican Art is located in Illinois.
The museum is in Chicago’s Harrison Park in the Pilsen neighborhood. It was founded in 1982 by Carlos Tortolero and opened its current museum building in 1987, presenting Mexican art and culture to a broad public.
Although the museum is not exclusively about quinceañeras, it is a useful cultural reference for understanding the Mexican and Mexican American traditions in which quinceañera celebrations are practiced. Its collections and exhibitions cover art from both Mexico and the United States.
Illinois is sometimes overlooked because quinceañera traditions are strongly associated in popular culture with states such as California and Texas. Mexican cultural institutions, however, are found throughout the United States.
