Which U.S. President was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in November 1963?

The story behind the answer

John F. Kennedy was the U.S. president assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in November 1963. Kennedy was traveling in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963, when he was shot. He was pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital shortly afterward.

Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States and was visiting Texas during a political trip intended partly to ease divisions within the Democratic Party. The motorcade route passed the Texas School Book Depository, from which Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of firing the shots. Oswald was arrested the same day but was killed by Jack Ruby two days later, before trial.

This event is often confused with the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and William McKinley, who were also presidents killed in office, but neither died in Dallas or in 1963. Ronald Reagan survived an assassination attempt in 1981.
