State Farm uses the advertising slogan “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.” The line is one of the best-known slogans in U.S. insurance advertising.
State Farm introduced the slogan in 1971. The original jingle was written by Barry Manilow, who later became a prominent singer and songwriter. The campaign linked the company’s name with ideas of personal service, reliability, and help after an accident or other covered loss.
State Farm was founded in 1922 by George J. Mecherle, a retired farmer and insurance salesman. It began by selling automobile insurance to farmers and later expanded into home, life, health, and financial products.
The slogan is sometimes confused with advertising lines from other insurers, including Nationwide’s “Nationwide is on your side” and Allstate’s “You’re in good hands.” Those are separate campaigns belonging to different companies.
