Which U.S. destroyer exploded in dry dock during the Pearl Harbor attack?

The story behind the answer

USS Shaw exploded in dry dock during the Pearl Harbor attack.

Shaw was a Mahan-class destroyer undergoing maintenance in Dry Dock No. 2 when Japanese aircraft attacked on December 7, 1941. Bombs struck the ship, and a major fire spread to its forward ammunition magazines. The resulting explosion sent debris into the harbor and produced the dramatic fireball often shown in photographs of the attack.

The destroyer suffered severe damage, but its crew had already begun fighting the fires and many sailors survived. Shaw was later salvaged, repaired, and returned to service in the Pacific during World War II.

Shaw is sometimes confused with USS Cassin and USS Downes, which were also in dry dock and were badly damaged. Those two destroyers were in Dry Dock No. 1, while Shaw was in Dry Dock No. 2.
