Las Vegas hosts the annual New Year’s Eve celebration and countdown at the Fremont Street Experience.
The Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian mall in downtown Las Vegas covered by a large barrel-vault canopy. Its Viva Vision screen and surrounding casinos provide the setting for a major public New Year’s Eve party, with live entertainment and a midnight countdown.
Las Vegas also holds separate New Year celebrations on the Las Vegas Strip, where the boulevard is closed to vehicles and casinos participate in a coordinated fireworks program. These are distinct venues, so the Fremont Street event should not be confused with the Strip’s celebration.
The Fremont Street Experience opened in 1995 after the street was converted into a pedestrian area and the canopy was built above it. Its New Year’s Eve event reflects downtown Las Vegas’s role as an entertainment district separate from the newer Strip resort corridor.
