Which U.S. battleship capsized at Pearl Harbor after suffering extensive torpedo damage?

The story behind the answer

USS Oklahoma capsized at Pearl Harbor after suffering extensive torpedo damage.

The Nevada-class battleship was moored along Battleship Row when Japanese aircraft attacked on December 7, 1941. Multiple torpedoes struck its port side, causing severe flooding and allowing the ship to roll over in the shallow harbor.

Hundreds of sailors were trapped inside the overturned hull. Rescue teams cut through the ship and saved some crew members, including sailors who survived for more than a day in air pockets. The disaster killed 429 people aboard Oklahoma.

The wreck was eventually righted and removed from Pearl Harbor, but the ship was not returned to service. It was sold for scrap after the war. Oklahoma is distinct from USS Arizona, which remained on the harbor bottom and became a war memorial.
