Which U.S. battleship at Pearl Harbor was named after California?

The story behind the answer

USS California was the Pearl Harbor battleship named after the state of California.

The ship was the lead vessel of the Tennessee class and entered service in 1921. It served as the flagship of the United States Pacific Fleet at different times before the attack and was moored at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Japanese aircraft hit California with bombs and torpedoes, causing severe flooding. The battleship sank in relatively shallow water, but it was later salvaged, rebuilt, and returned to service during World War II.

California is sometimes confused with USS Tennessee, another Tennessee-class battleship present at Pearl Harbor. Tennessee was named for Tennessee, while California carried the name of the western U.S. state.
