Which U.S. anniversary did the 2026 America250 celebration follow by 50 years?

The 2026 America250 celebration follows the United States Bicentennial, held 50 years earlier in 1976.

The Bicentennial marked 200 years since the Declaration of Independence. It was celebrated nationwide with exhibitions, parades, educational programs, public ceremonies, and special coins and stamps. The 1976 observance was one of the largest coordinated commemorations in American history.

The 2026 semiquincentennial continues the sequence: the Centennial marked 100 years in 1876, the Bicentennial marked 200 years in 1976, and the Semiquincentennial marks 250 years in 2026. The next 50-year milestone will be the Tricentennial in 2076.

A bicentennial is specifically a 200th anniversary. It should not be confused with the sesquicentennial, which marks 150 years, or the centennial, which marks 100 years. These terms describe intervals, not particular holidays or buildings.
