Which U.S. airfield was the main headquarters of the Army Air Forces in Hawaii during the Pearl Harbor attack?

The story behind the answer

Hickam Field was the main headquarters of the U.S. Army Air Forces in Hawaii during the Pearl Harbor attack. Located beside Pearl Harbor, it was a major target for Japanese aircraft on December 7, 1941.

Japanese attackers bombed and strafed Hickam Field to destroy American aircraft and prevent U.S. pilots from responding effectively. Barracks, aircraft, and other facilities were damaged, and many personnel were killed or wounded.

Hickam Field is sometimes confused with Wheeler Field, another important Army airfield on Oahu, or with Ford Island, the Navy aviation base in Pearl Harbor. Hickam later became part of Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam and was renamed Hickam Air Force Base in 1948 before returning to the name Hickam Field.
