Which university employed C.S. Lewis as a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College?

The story behind the answer

The University of Oxford employed C.S. Lewis as a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College. He held that Oxford post from 1925 until 1954, teaching English literature and developing a major scholarly career.

Magdalen College was also central to Lewis’s social and intellectual life. He met regularly with fellow writers, including J.R.R. Tolkien, and participated in the literary group known as the Inklings. The group met chiefly at Oxford’s Eagle and Child pub and in Lewis’s college rooms.

In 1954, Lewis left Oxford for the University of Cambridge, where he became the first professor of medieval and Renaissance English. His move did not erase his Oxford association: most of his adult academic life, friendships, and writing career remained strongly connected with the city.
