Which university did C.S. Lewis attend as a student?
Answer
University of Oxford
Answer
University of Oxford
C.S. Lewis attended the University of Oxford as a student.
Lewis entered University College, Oxford, in 1917, but his studies were interrupted by military service during the First World War. After being wounded in France in 1918, he returned to Oxford and completed a demanding sequence of examinations in classics, philosophy, and English.
He achieved first-class results in three separate subjects: Honour Moderations in 1920, Literae Humaniores in 1922, and English in 1923. This broad training helped shape both his academic work and his later popular writing.
Lewis spent most of his professional life at Oxford, first as a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College. He later became a professor at Cambridge, but Oxford remained the university with which his student years and early academic career were most closely connected.
