Which UNESCO World Heritage Site in the United States is famous for its geyser Old Faithful?
Answer
Yellowstone National Park
Answer
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the United States famous for the geyser Old Faithful.
Yellowstone became the world’s first national park in 1872, decades before the UNESCO World Heritage programme began. Its protected landscape spans a huge volcanic plateau in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, although most of the park lies in Wyoming. Old Faithful is one of the park’s best-known geothermal features because it erupts at relatively predictable intervals.
The site’s World Heritage importance extends beyond one geyser. Yellowstone contains colourful hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, canyons, waterfalls, forests, and major populations of bison, elk, wolves, and grizzly bears. The park sits above a giant volcanic system, commonly called the Yellowstone supervolcano.
A common mix-up is confusing Yellowstone with Grand Prismatic Spring, another famous feature in the same park. Grand Prismatic is a hot spring, while Old Faithful is a cone geyser that sends water and steam into the air.
