Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen shared the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House.

The twins were cast as infants for the ABC sitcom and took turns playing Danny Tanner’s youngest daughter throughout the show’s 1987–1995 run. Using twins allowed production to comply with child-labor rules and gave the producers flexibility when one baby was unavailable or uncomfortable on set.

The arrangement was initially kept relatively discreet. For much of the series, the opening credits used the combined credit “Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen,” which could make it appear that Michelle was played by one performer. The twins were more explicitly credited by their individual names in the show’s later seasons.

The Olsen twins became major child stars through Full House and later appeared in television films, direct-to-video projects, and the feature film It Takes Two. They did not reprise Michelle for the Netflix sequel Fuller House, where the character was mentioned and shown only indirectly.
