Which trophy did Scottie Scheffler win at the 2025 Open?

The story behind the answer

Scottie Scheffler won the Claret Jug at the 2025 Open Championship. The trophy is officially called The Golf Champion Trophy and is presented to the winner of golf’s oldest major championship.

Scheffler won the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland from 17–20 July 2025. He finished at 17 under par with a four-round total of 267, beating Harris English by four strokes. The victory was Scheffler’s fourth major championship and his first Open title.

The Claret Jug is a silver wine-jug-shaped trophy whose formal name is The Golf Champion Trophy. It was introduced after Young Tom Morris won the original Challenge Belt outright by claiming three consecutive Open titles in 1868, 1869 and 1870. A new trophy was created in 1872, although the event’s winner that year received a medal because the jug was not yet ready.

The other options belong to different events: the Green Jacket is awarded at the Masters, the Wanamaker Trophy at the PGA Championship, and the FedEx Cup is associated with the PGA Tour season-ending playoffs.
