Which tree species is known as the African tulip tree and has bright orange-red flowers?

The story behind the answer

Spathodea campanulata is the tree species known as the African tulip tree, famous for bright orange-red flowers.

It is native to tropical Africa and belongs to the family Bignoniaceae. Its large, cup-shaped flowers can appear in clusters near the ends of branches, giving the tree a striking appearance in cultivation and in tropical landscapes.

The African tulip tree is widely planted as an ornamental tree in tropical and subtropical regions. In some places, however, it has escaped cultivation and is regarded as invasive because it can spread into disturbed forests and compete with native vegetation.

It should not be confused with the North American tulip tree, Liriodendron tulipifera. The two species have similar common names but belong to different genera and continents.
