Which treaty ended the American Revolutionary War, the conflict commemorated by America250?

The story behind the answer

The Treaty of Paris (1783) ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States.

Representatives signed the treaty in Paris on September 3, 1783. Great Britain recognized the United States as free, sovereign, and independent, formally ending its claim to govern the former Thirteen Colonies. The agreement also established boundaries that gave the new nation territory east of the Mississippi River, south of the Great Lakes, and north of Spanish Florida.

The treaty resulted from negotiations involving American representatives including Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens. Congress ratified it in Annapolis, Maryland, on January 14, 1784.

It is easy to confuse this agreement with other treaties named for Paris. The 1763 treaty ended the Seven Years’ War, while the 1783 treaty settled the American Revolutionary War and recognized American independence.
