The transformer hero of the Micmac people who shaped the landscape is Glooskap.
Glooskap—also spelled Glooscap, Gluskabe, Gluskap, or Kluscap—is a central culture hero of the Mi'kmaq and other Wabanaki peoples of northeastern North America. In Mi'kmaq stories, he is associated with creating or reshaping regional landmarks, including the Annapolis Valley and places around the Bay of Fundy.
His adventures are not limited to landscape-making. Glooskap is portrayed as a benevolent teacher and protector who brought people useful knowledge, fire, tobacco, fishing nets, canoes, and earthenware. Some stories describe him defeating monsters, controlling weather, and teaching people how to live responsibly with animals.
A common mix-up is Manabozho, or Nanabozho, the comparable transformer figure in Anishinaabe traditions. Hiawatha belongs to Haudenosaunee tradition, while Deganawida is associated with the founding of the Iroquois Confederacy. Glooskap's name also survives in Glooscap First Nation in Nova Scotia.
