Ash defeated Leon to become World Champion in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys.
The decisive battle took place in the Masters Tournament of the World Coronation Series. Leon, the Champion of Galar, had been presented as the tournament’s top-ranked Trainer and was known for his undefeated reputation in the Pokémon Sword and Shield setting.
Ash’s victory made him the recognized strongest Trainer in the world within the anime’s storyline. The match was the culmination of Ash’s long-running competitive journey, following earlier regional competitions and his Alola League victory.
The result was revealed in the anime during 2022, although the season continued into 2023. Leon is sometimes confused with Cynthia because Ash also battles her in the tournament. Cynthia is a Champion from the Sinnoh region, but Leon is the final opponent Ash defeats in the World Coronation Series final.
