Which toy company recalled millions of Magnetix construction sets in 2007 after children swallowed powerful magnets?

The story behind the answer

Mega Brands recalled Magnetix construction sets in 2007 after children swallowed loose neodymium magnets.

The recall followed reports of intestinal perforations and other serious injuries when multiple magnets attracted each other through intestinal walls. The affected sets contained small, powerful magnets that could detach from plastic building pieces.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 4 million sets in March 2007. The action expanded earlier safety warnings and highlighted the special danger of high-powered magnets in children's products.

Magnetix is sometimes confused with Mattel's 2007 toy recalls, but Magnetix was made by Mega Brands, the Canadian company formerly known as Mega Bloks. The issue was the magnets, not ordinary plastic construction parts.
