Which Titan was the father of Zeus? Cronus was the Titan father of Zeus in Greek mythology.

Cronus was the youngest and leader of the Titans, born to Gaia, the Earth, and Uranus, the Sky. After overthrowing Uranus with a sickle, he became ruler of the cosmos. A prophecy warned that one of his children would eventually defeat him, so Cronus swallowed each child born to his wife, Rhea.

When Zeus was born, Rhea concealed him in Crete and gave Cronus a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes instead. Cronus swallowed the stone, allowing Zeus to survive and grow to adulthood. Zeus later forced Cronus to disgorge his swallowed siblings—Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon—and led them in the Titanomachy against the older divine generation.

Cronus is often confused with Chronos, the personification of primordial time. The names became associated in later interpretation, but they are distinct figures in Greek mythology. Roman writers identified Cronus with Saturn.
