Prometheus stole fire for humans in the mythological story linked to Pandora’s creation. His act angered Zeus and forms the background to the punishment in which Pandora was sent to humanity.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus is a benefactor of humankind. He is associated with giving mortals fire and, in some traditions, teaching them useful arts. Zeus responds by ordering the creation of Pandora and by punishing Prometheus separately.
The fire episode and the Pandora episode are connected in Hesiod’s larger account, but they are not the same event. Pandora does not steal fire, and Epimetheus is not the fire-bringer. Those distinctions help separate the roles of the two brothers.
