Which tech giant is headquartered in Cupertino, California? Apple. Apple’s world corporate headquarters are at Apple Park in Cupertino, a city in California’s Silicon Valley.
Apple began in 1976 as the Apple Computer Company, founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. The company has maintained a major presence in Cupertino since 1977, even as its products expanded from personal computers into phones, tablets, wearables, software, and online services. Apple changed its corporate name from Apple Computer, Inc. to Apple Inc. in 2007 to reflect that broader business.
Apple Park opened to employees in April 2017 and replaced the older Apple Campus at One Infinite Loop as the company’s main headquarters. Designed by architect Norman Foster’s firm, the enormous circular building is often nicknamed “the spaceship.” Steve Jobs advocated for a campus that would feel more like a natural refuge than a conventional office park.
Cupertino is not Apple’s birthplace: the company was founded in nearby Los Altos. Nor should Apple be confused with other major technology companies headquartered elsewhere, such as Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, Google in Mountain View, California, and Meta in Menlo Park, California.
