Which teammate of Bolt was disqualified for doping in the 2008 4x100m relay?

Nesta Carter was the teammate of Usain Bolt disqualified for doping in Jamaica’s 2008 Olympic 4×100-metre relay. Carter ran the opening leg, followed by Michael Frater, Bolt and Asafa Powell, as Jamaica initially won in a world-record 37.10 seconds.

Years later, a retested sample from Carter’s Beijing 2008 anti-doping test was found to contain methylhexaneamine, a prohibited stimulant. In 2017, the International Olympic Committee formally disqualified the Jamaican relay team and stripped all four athletes of their gold medals.

The result changed the medal standings: Trinidad and Tobago moved from silver to gold, Japan moved to silver, and Brazil moved to bronze. Bolt therefore lost one of his nine Olympic athletics gold medals, although he still retained his individual 100-metre, 200-metre and 4×100-metre achievements from other Games.

A common mix-up is identifying Asafa Powell, another Jamaican sprinter on the relay. Powell was not the athlete whose positive retest caused the disqualification; that athlete was Carter.
