Which team won the 2023 World Series?

The story behind the answer

The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks four games to one. It was the Rangers’ first World Series championship since the franchise began play in 1961.

The series ran from October 27 through November 1, 2023. Texas and Arizona had both entered the postseason as wild-card teams, making their matchup unusual for a championship series. The Rangers split the first two games at Globe Life Field, then won three straight in Arizona to claim the title.

Shortstop Corey Seager was named World Series Most Valuable Player after hitting three home runs, driving in six runs, and earning his second career Series MVP award. Manager Bruce Bochy also made history by winning his fourth championship and becoming only the third manager to win titles in both leagues.

A common mix-up is confusing the Rangers’ American League Championship Series opponent, the Houston Astros, with their World Series opponent. Houston lost to Texas in a seven-game ALCS, while Arizona defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS.
