Which team chose David Carr 1st in the 2002 NFL Draft?

The Houston Texans chose David Carr first overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. He became the first draft pick in franchise history and the first player selected by the Texans as they entered the NFL as an expansion team.

Carr was a highly regarded quarterback from Fresno State, where he set numerous school and Western Athletic Conference passing records. Houston had been awarded the No. 1 selection because it was a new franchise, even though the Carolina Panthers had finished the previous season with the league’s worst record. The Texans publicly indicated before draft day that Carr was their choice, removing much of the suspense.

Carr started immediately for Houston in its inaugural 2002 season and remained the team’s primary quarterback through 2006.
