Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, commonly called TSMC, manufactures chips for Apple’s iPhone.
TSMC is the world’s largest dedicated semiconductor foundry, meaning it manufactures integrated circuits designed by other companies rather than primarily selling chips under its own consumer brand. Morris Chang founded the company in Taiwan in 1987, helping establish the pure-play foundry model.
TSMC produces advanced processors for customers across smartphones, computers, data centers, and other industries. Apple designs its A-series and other chips, while TSMC manufactures many of them under contract. This distinction matters: TSMC is not the same as a chip-design company such as Nvidia or a device maker such as Apple. Its market value is strongly influenced by demand for advanced manufacturing capacity.
