TSMC manufactures advanced chips for Apple, Nvidia, and other designers.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, commonly called TSMC, is the world’s largest dedicated semiconductor foundry. It manufactures chips designed by other companies rather than primarily selling processors under its own consumer brand.
TSMC was founded in Taiwan in 1987 by Morris Chang. Its foundry model helped separate chip design from chip manufacturing, allowing companies such as Nvidia, Apple, AMD, and Qualcomm to develop products without owning comparable fabrication networks.
TSMC is frequently included among the world’s largest companies by market capitalization because advanced chips are essential to smartphones, data centers, automobiles, and artificial-intelligence systems. It is not the same kind of business as Nvidia: Nvidia designs many chips, while TSMC manufactures chips for customers using its production processes.
