Which surviving ancient wonder is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World?

The story behind the answer

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and only surviving wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The pyramid was built at Giza in Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, whose Greek name was Cheops. Construction probably took place in the 26th century BCE, and the monument originally stood about 146.6 metres high. It was the tallest human-made structure in the world for roughly 3,800 years.

The pyramid formed part of a large funerary complex that included temples, causeways, and subsidiary pyramids. Most of its smooth white limestone casing disappeared over time, leaving the stepped core visible today. Its precise construction methods remain a major subject of archaeological study, although ancient workers’ settlements and quarry evidence reveal much about the project.

The other ancient wonders were destroyed or disappeared, and the Hanging Gardens are especially uncertain because their existence and location remain debated. The Great Pyramid is therefore the sole surviving member of the traditional list.
