Which suitor tries to bargain with Odysseus after Antinous is killed?

Eurymachus tries to bargain with Odysseus after Antinous is killed.

The scene occurs in Book 22 of the Odyssey, when Odysseus reveals himself and begins attacking Penelope’s suitors. Antinous is the first suitor killed, shot by Odysseus with an arrow while drinking. Eurymachus, one of the leading suitors, immediately attempts to shift the blame onto the dead Antinous.

Eurymachus promises that the suitors will repay everything they have consumed and stolen from Odysseus’s household. Odysseus rejects the offer, explaining that the suitors’ wrongdoing cannot be settled with compensation. Eurymachus then draws his sword and attacks, but Odysseus shoots him in the chest.

Ctesippus, Amphinomus, and Leodes are also suitors, but none is the bargain-making spokesman in this moment. Eurymachus is especially significant because Homer presents him as polished and manipulative: he can speak persuasively while secretly plotting Telemachus’s death.
